Reached out to Dawns Kitchen for catering or a personal chef using the online form. I provide the date and number of folks on the form. We went back and forth discussing the menu options and we were ready to move forward before the end of the week and suddenly she notes that they cannot accommodate our date but could a day earlier - a complete non-starter. I might try again next year because the menu looked great but frustrated that she did not tell me upfront that my date was not possible - I would have moved on to other options.
Just had my wedding with Dawns Kitchen as the catering company and my husband and I couldn't be happier with the food and services. Every guest complimented the food with almost no left overs. Dawn was patient and always kind when we spoke on the phone. If anyone wants a great company this is the one! Also, the best customer service !
We recently used Dawn's Kitchen for a very large family reunion held at The Black Stallion in Corolla. I worked with Dawn over a few month period selecting breakfast, lunch and dinner for 65 people for 6 days. Dawn had great selections to choose from.
I was a bit nervous since all the catering fell onto me but I was not disappointed. Dawn's preparation and delivery is professional and the food was absolutely delicious. We had a small issue the first day with not enough of a few things, (happened to me 3 years ago with a different caterer). The first day is always a learning experience but Dawn stepped it up and the rest of the week was smooth, plenty of food and delicious. Will absolutely use Dawn again at our next reunion.
Just spent 8 days in Kill Devil Hills and hired Dawn to cater daily breakfasts as well as a few lunches and dinner for 30 ppl. It was a large family vacation. Dawn and her crew were fantastic. Dawn did a few things that truly makes her a class act.
1. After seeing how much our family ate after meal two, she right sized the catering so we always had just the right amount of leftovers. Not too little. Not too much as we had a fridge space issue.
2. She was beyond helpful even with advising us, as it was out firsr time there, about everything from Church, Things to do, traffic, cell phone store locations etc. She was a major help with information locally. We are NYC city slickers. We appreciated her southern hospitality greatly.
3. Totally and amazingly welcoming. She is a sweetheart in all senses. She truly was special. I'm so glad to have met her. Felt like I was leaving family. She was also patient despite us having a boatload of kids who are not the most easy to work around. Running between her legs as she cooked.
Now let's talk food... Because food is what it is about, let me just give you the MUST haves:
A. Breakfast- Her homemade cinnamon rolls and chocolate croissants are Heaven. I mean I miss the chocolate croissants even now. I highly recommend. Also, she brought these special grapes that are a cross between a grape and a plum. So delicious.
B. Lunch - Her Shrimp po boys are amazing. Her remoulade is key as is her perfectly crisp shrimp. Her Homemade cheese pizza and pepperoni pizza was a HUGE hit. There was none left after lunch. Her salads were always delicious. Especially her homemade ranch dip and other sauces.
C. Dinner - Pulled pork sandwich with her North Carolina dressing and slaw was AMAZING. It spoiled all other pulled pork for me. I've clearly not been doing it right for years. Her charcuterie board display was excellent. I also highly reconnect her seafood steamer pot: lobster, crabs, shrimp and more. It was so delicious. Also, not everyone does corn on the cob right. Dawn does. She does not overcook it. It was crisp, juicy and with the right amount of butter.
I highly recommend her. From initial outreach to her dealing with numerous changes before we even got there, she was responsive, accommodating and so easy to work with.
Thank you Dawn!!! My family had a memorable trip and you were a big part of that.
In house Chef Experience- Fantastic
The appetizers were very good but things got progressively better with the delicious Pear and Goat Cheese Salad, followed by the Grouper prepared in Parchment which was perfectly prepared and absolutely delicious. The sides of potatoes and asparagus were exceptional. The homemade cheesecake topped with strawberries was a perfect ending to an extraordinary night.
By the time dessert was finished they had cleaned the kitchen loaded the dishwashers and there was no evidence of a complete dinner for nine having been prepared and served.
Staff was exceptional, friendly, efficient and professional.
Highly recommend this incredible service and experience
An unusual opportunity presented itself, when we were able to attend an oceanfront pop up dinner as part of the celebration of taste the beach.
Dinner was at an oceanfront house, and was preceded by a social hour of wine, cheeses, and fruits as we overlooked the ocean. The staff was helpful, friendly, and ensured that glasses remained full while everyone was having a wonderful time.
The seven course dinner, themed an NC Tar Heel Dinner, was expertly served with a matching wine. Each course arrived perfectly timed, at the correct temperature, and with a smile, quite a feat when cooking for 30.
Through out the evening, Dawn & Sonny would tell about each course, the flavor or inspiration, thereby adding an interesting flavor to table conversation.
A great dinner and a great evening!!!
Chef Dawn and her team catered a birthday celebration dinner for our extended family -- all 18 of us -- during our stay in Corolla and it was tremendously good. She and her team took care of everything from set up to clean up and put out a delicious surf and turf meal we will never forget. The skirt steak with chimichurri sauce was perfectly tender. The steamer basket with shrimp, clams, and snow crab was tasty and we loved how Chef Dawn helped make sure got every morsel of crab out of the snow crab legs. She did such a great job teaching us that the next day the kids devoured the leftover snow crab legs for lunch and did all the work themselves.
Dawn and her team did dinner for our family of 8 during our vacation. The great food, the seamless service, and clean-up were top notch! All of our food was cooked to perfection, very fresh, and wonderfully presented. Service was fantastic - we never needed to refill our own wine glasses, the house was cleaned up better than it was before they arrived, and each member of the team were fantastic to talk to.
We all agreed we'd highly recommend to families visiting OBX and looking for a night off of cooking, a great meal, or catering for a wedding. If you are in any of those categories definitely give Dawn a call, you wont be disappointed!
